Who I am, what I do
My name is Jamie Maldonado, and I'm a photographer. I come from the heart of East Texas (ok, at least the chest cavity of it), and I specialize in music photography.
Living behind the "Pine Curtain" makes things interesting insofar as trying to find bands and shows to shoot. But I've ventured far out of these woods with my camera in hand. But that doesn't mean East Texas isn't filled with some incredible musical gems (Eisley, Pilotdrift, Quiet Company and a surprising amount of others).
I seem to specialize in concert photography, but I've been branching out big time. And I don't just stick to music, either. I'd probably more accurately be described as a people photographer. If there's a person, I'm definitely game. I just gravitate toward music, especially stuff off the beaten path. "Inide," you could say. But I can get into the hard stuff, or even the bluegrass stuff. I'm all over the place.
I have developed a habit of hopping all over the country in the last couple of years, and this has yielded a cornucopia of amazing experiences. Incredible friends, great music and great opportunities for me to take some awesome pictures. I hope to be able to continue this, and to expand my horizons into other countries soon.
I also do design. But it seems like photography is overpowering it for the moment. I do love design, though. And I think I'm pretty good at it.
Anyway, I'm working freelance, and it's a tight lifestyle financially. I certainly miss the regular paychecks from my old jobs from time to time. But I'm a working photographer, doing what I love. And I know I can go great places with it.
I'm going to update this blog with accounts of my various photoshoots and assignments (from a technical and personal standpoint). I'll also take looks back at my past work, and talk about topical things. I'll see how it comes together. This should serve somewhat as commentary for my Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/theantrider/
